North Bristol under 10s v Thornbury under 10s

. Posted in Match Reports

Sunday 11th March 2012 - Paul Hancock

Several people (including me) thought that Thornbury would be too much of a challenge at this stage of the team’s development. We were wrong – the team rose to the challenge.

18 players arrived including Sean C – welcome back Sean - and Tom S back from his injury picked up the other week.

The first game got off to a slightly slow start for NB and at half time we were 3 nil down.  Then the tackles started going in – great tackle from Connor O – we won ball at the rucks and scrums, the ripping gave us possession and we scored 3 tries. Luke J in his new role as scrum half played really well gaining quick ball and accurate passing.

Try scorers  Joe F – 1  Charlie H  -  2

Final score   NB  3  Thornbury  3   (That felt like a win.)

The second game was just as exciting but Thornbury suddenly realised that they had a new North Bristol team out to prove a point.  At half time NB were 3 nil down again and guess what we upped our game and scored 3 tries in the second half. More good tackling from Matthew C in his new position – one in particular a try saver along with scoring a try. I wish I had a camera on Ryan G when he scored – what a great grin. Charlie H had a dive over for his try.

Try scorers Matthew C – 1 Ryan G – 1  Charlie H – 1

Final score  NB 3  Thornbury 6   (That felt like a draw!!!!)

All in all 2 great games of rugby – Thornbury coach and Ben H's Dad commented on how NB had improved over last year.

A few areas to concentrate on –  passing on the run in particular- but what an improvement. 2 weekends of exciting rugby and the beginnings of the team working as a team.  And what a team – keep it up.

Man of the match -  Luke J   Well played Luke – keep that ball spinning.

The details of these games got lost on the way home!!

I just remember we were well and truly beaten by a well drilled team who knew how to ruck and pass the ball and therefore score ties.

James H did score our only try.

Man of the match award from the spectators goes to Nathan who refereed the game very well. Well done Nathan.

Tomorrow’s game is at home versus Nailsea/Backwell. Charlie H and I will not be there and neither will Phil so would someone please keep notes and hopefully a list of try scorers.

Don’t forget ruck, pass and score – Good luck.

North BristolRFC Under 10s v St Marys RFC Under 10s

North BristolRFC Under 10s v Gordano RFC Under 10s

Well we knew we were up against tough opposition and with the addition of our Halloween party the night before, we had a difficult morning.

Match 1  North Bristol v St Marys

St Marys are a well drilled team and showed what running rugby can provide.  Their passing and rucking was very good and I think gave North Bristol some food for thought.

James H showed his usual skill of running at pace straight for the line and scored our only try in the second half.

Final score

North Bristol  1   St Marys  8    Well done James – you broke our duck.

Match 2  St. Marys v Gordano

Final score

St Marys 3   Gordano 2

Match 3  North Bristol v Gordano

By our second match we were shaking off the party mode and were much

improved. Some good tackling was noted in particular from Thomas E and Charlie A - rucking was not so good but Charlie H and Charlie S did their best to keep possession.  Our scrums were good as they were at the last game against Avonvale.

Final score

North Bristol 0   Gordano 4

What can we learn from the game – move forward with ball with more pace and urgency, at the breakdown get rucking a bit quicker.

Man of the match – Charlie A  -   Well done Charlie – you played very well.

Training on Tuesday evening showed some great improvement so lets put it into practice against Frampton Cotterell on Sunday.

20th November 2011      Gordano Sharks ground

I wasn’t expecting a game against Keynsham as well as Gordano and Keynsham have a reputation of being a very difficult team to beat – in fact we don’t know a team that has. However a squad of 14 turned up ready to have a go.

Match 1

North Bristolv Keynsham

We got off to our normal sleepy start – losing possession a bit too often and ending up 6 tries down at half time. We then got going and there were improvements all round with better tackling in particular from Charlie S and Sam D but not enough to stop 4 more tries being scored.

Match 2

Keynsham v Gordano

Final score    Keynsham 3 Gordano 3

Gordano were 2 nil down at half time.

Match 3

North Bristolv Gordano

A better game – we were more alert and our defence much improved. Tom S really showed his strength with some very impressive forward play and tackling. His mum had wet eyes - she was so proud.

Charlie H sneaked away at speed through a gap and scored a try. Jamie P, Reuben K and James H all played well and gained some hard yards with their strength and straight running.

Final score

North Bristol1 Gordano 6

Man of the match Reuben K – well played Reuben – you looked rather warm at the end of the game.

North Bristol Under 10s v Avonvale RFC Under 10s

15 squad members arrived and you could see that they were ready for a good strong game of rugby. No late nights were on show – lots of energy.

Game 1

A slow start but suddenly the training began to kick in and by half time the score was 3 tries to NB and 2 to Avonvale. Charlie S showed his new running skills with the belief he could get to the line without being tackled and scored 4 tries.

Thanks goes to Thomas E who played for Avonvale as they were a player down and didn’t pursue some of his team mates too hard!

Final score

North Bristol   5    Charlie S  4   Charlie H 1  (We now have 3 Charlies in the squad)

Avonvale 2

Game 2

Charlie H then played for Avonvale and immediately scored a try for them. He obviously hadn’t read the script!!   He was removed and put back into NB at half time.

There was good tackling and passing which saw tries from Sam D James H and Charlie H who was feeling guilty by then.

Final score

North Bristol 4      Sam D 1   James H 1    Charlie S  1  Charlie H  1

Avonvale 3

What a great result  2 games won in the second match of the season.  The squad are enjoying themselves and working as a team and talking to each other and calling for the ball and making strong runs and passing the ball before being tackled.  The parents enjoyed the game as well and also to see the faces of 15 players at the end who had just won 2 games.

Well done to the coaches who have really brought them on this season.

Roll on St Marys.
