Team Sheet: Joe, Christopher, Edward, Alfie, Aidan, Ella, Michael, Matthew, Luke
The third fixture of the season got off to a rocky start. Edward took control as captain under overcast skies and with a brisk south westerly; St Marys won the toss and took the first play. After only one tag they scored easily and play was reset. North took the restart but lost position with a poor pass and despite some great defensive tags, St Marys went over for a second score. The game then continued, tries following possession until just before half time when Alfie scored a well worked try for North after a St Marys foot in touch. Halftime score NBRFC 3, SMRFC 4. The second half did not go well, with North loosing possession on three occasions due to their nervous handling. After St Marys ran in these three turn-over scores, play continued with two more tries a-piece. Despite this, the highlight of the half was a great tag by Joe, halting St Marys after they had turned over a North start. The tag resulted in a St Marys fumble and after a searing run, Joe passed to Alfie who went over in the corner.
Final Score – First Game: NBRFC 5 (tries: Alfie (2), Michael (3) SMRFC 9.
The second match proved to be a very different affair. After a “interesting” half-time talk by the Coaches, the team under Joe as captain, were left on the pitch alone, with instructions to “sort themselves out”. With some wild arm-waving from the touchline, the tactic worked well and after 4 complete passes, Ella took the final pass and scored the first try in the far corner. With the support play, handling and tagging far improved, the tries flowed with play and at the interval it was five a-piece. The second half saw some great support play again, and combined with accurate passing and good forward running North just got in one more play to seal the win. Special mention should again go to Alfie who had a great game and ran in three more tries, supported by scores from Joe, Michael and Aiden.
Final Score – Second Game: NBRFC 10 (tries: Alfie (3), Joe (3), Aiden (2), Ella, Michael) SMRFC 9.”
