U7s vs Minchinhampton

Our first weekend back in 2012 and U7s faced-off against Minchinhampton. Conditions on the day were absolutely perfect – sunshine, a moderate wind and lots of mud! There were more than enough U7s from both clubs to run two matches in parallel (and still have substitutes).

On one pitch, North’s running was more than capable of equalling that of our visitors resulting in some very close games. For North, there were many good examples of running through heavy traffic - on multiple occasions being rewarded with points. It didn’t all go our way as we gave away silly penalties from forward passes and the odd foot in touch. Minchinhampton’s ball handling is worthy of mention and was a game winner for them as they repeatedly kept the ball alive long enough to penetrate our defence. However, it must be mentioned that North responded with some of the best defensive teamwork and tagging I have ever seen us play – great job!

On the other pitch, there were good breaks on the attack by individuals, but not enough support for the player with the ball. Defensively we were unlucky with the tags - we were there but just not making it count by missing the tag on the final grab. Again, the opposition created a lot of space with their continued passing and this did open holes in North’s line allowing Minchinhampton to make the scores more or less even. On balance a very good effort from our Under 7s against a well-drilled opposition.
